1. Welcome problems and difficulties as natural obstacles, even necessary ones, on your climb up the ladder of faith.

2. Give yourself a regular and thorough self-analysis to discover what sins and weaknesses are blocking you from God.  Concentrate special attention on your biggest weakness; it can eventually become your greatest strength.

3. Surrender your life to the will of God.  Then repeat the statement of this regularly “I surrender…” just as you frequently express love for your husband or wife or parent.  Many people start every day with the re-avowal of their commitment to God.

4. Guard against pride in spiritual progress.  Pride is soon followed by a set-back.  On the other hand, don’t be discouraged if you slip.  A new start can always be made from any position.

5. Develop faith through specific religious practice: prayer and meditation, Bible reading and participation in your church activities.
